Top 10 Industrial Disributor Stocks To Invest In 2015

Although we don't believe in timing the market or panicking over daily movements, we do like to keep an eye on market changes -- just in case they're material to our investing thesis.

Despite a slow morning, stocks battled back to finish the day nearly unchanged, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI  ) closed down 5 points or 0.03%, coming back from a 100-point deficit earlier in the day. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq, meanwhile, lost 0.2% and 0.5%, respectively. The day's economic reports were mostly in line with expectations, as an ISM Services report rated last month's growth in the category at 54.0, indicating a modest expansion, while the ADP's employment report said 175,000 jobs were added in January, even with expectations for the official report due out on Friday. Atlanta Federal Reserve President Dennis Lockhart also said earlier in the day that he expects the stimulus taper to continue in increments of $10 billion as it's begun and that it should be completed by the fourth quarter. The comments may have shaken investors, as the Dow has already fallen 6% this year, and investors may have been expecting the Fed to make adjustments according to market behavior.

Advisors' Opinion:

Did you miss the initial Ebola rally, led by Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Corporation (NASDAQ:TKMR) and Lakeland Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:LAKE)? Don't sweat it - you're not alone. And if you were thinking about diving into either of those names now, forget about it. Both LAKE and TKMR are overbought, and are guaranteed to be volatile (read "unpredictable") in the future. It's not too late to get in on Ebola-mania, however.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

    What is Lakeland Industries (LAKE)?

    Lakeland Industries

I’m glad you asked. Lakeland gets more than 90% of its revenue from the manufacture and sale safety garments, and on Sept. 12, it reminded the world that it makes hazmat suits that can be used to stave off Ebola.

With the deadly virus having finally made its way to US shores, investors are paying attention again today, sending Lakeland’s shares soaring on high volume.

Shares of Lakeland have gained 8.6% to $7.55, well above its Sept. 12 closing price of $6.85 (though below its high of $9.40 touched on that day).

Lakeland joins Tekmira (TKMR) and other biotech stocks as those benefiting from the Ebola scare. Let’s hope it doesn’t last.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Novatel Wireless (NVTL), provides wireless broadband access solutions for the mobile communications market worldwide. This stock closed up 4.1% to $2.01 in Thursday's trading session.

    Thursday's Range: $1.90-$2.02

    52-Week Range: $1.51-$3.55

    Thursday's Volume: 279,000

    Three-Month Average Volume: 147,319

From a technical perspective, NVTL ripped higher here right above its 50-day moving average of $1.88 with above-average volume. This strong spike to the upside on Thursday is quickly pushing shares of NVTL within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade. That trade will hit if NVTL manages to take out some near-term overhead resistance levels at $2.10 to $2.11 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in NVTL as long as it's trending above its 50-day at $1.88 or above more near-term support at $1.74 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 147,319 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then NVTL will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $2.18 to $2.30. Any high-volume move above those levels will then give NVTL a chance to re-fill some of its previous gap-down-day zone from March that started at $2.85.

Top Medical Companies To Buy For 2014

By Shayla Mars

No one wants to think about the aging of his or her parents, let alone plan for their death. Unfortunately, aging is a part of life, and in order to truly support your parents, it best to start asking questions now.

According to the National Funeral Directors Association, the average funeral in 2009 (without the glamor of flowers, and etc.) cost $6,560. Fidelity Investments recently estimated that a retiring couple would need about $240,000 to cover medical expenses (not taking into account employee-provided health benefits).

Of course, the most time consuming thoughts are not about the cost themselves, but rather how to afford the cost. As you parents get older here are 7 questions you need to ask.

1. Do you have a will?

Most of us have heard horror stories about families arguing over property left behind from deceased loved ones. Wills are extremely hard to discuss with an elderly parent because it can present the reality of dying.

Best Income Companies To Own In Right Now: Biodel Inc (BIOD)

Biodel Inc. (Biodel), incorporated on December 3, 2003, is a development-stage speciality biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of treatments for diabetes. The Company develops its product candidates by applying its formulation technologies to existing drugs. Its advanced program involves developing formulations of injectable recombinant human insulin (RHI). In addition to its ultra-rapid-acting insulin formulations, the Company has developed prototype formulations of a liquid glucagon, a basal insulin and a glucose responsive insulin, in each case for use by patients with diabetes. RHI-based formulation known as Linjeta was the subject of a New Drug Application (NDA).

The Company has two pivotal Phase III clinical trials with its preferred commercial formulation of Linjeta prior to re-submitting the NDA. In August 2011, it completed patient visits and analyzed top-line data from the first Phase 1 clinical trial of two RHI-based formulations. The trial was a single-center, randomized, double-blind, three-period crossover trial in 18 subjects with Type 1 diabetes. The purpose of the trial was to evaluate the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics and injection site toleration of BIOD-105 and BIOD-107, as compared to the insulin analog marketed as Humalog. The Company conducted Phase I, Phase II and Phase III clinical trials comparing the performance of its Linjeta formulation of RHI to either Humulin, which is a branded formulation of RHI or Humalog. Its pivotal Phase III clinical trials were open-label, parallel group, randomized trials conducted at centers in the United States, Germany and India.

The Company competes with Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk, Sanofi-Aventis, Halozyme Therapeutics, Inc. and MannKind Corporation.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Monica Gerson]

Biodel (NASDAQ: BIOD) is expected to post a Q1 loss at $0.24 per share.

First Majestic Silver (NYSE: AG) is estimated to post its Q1 earnings at $0.10 per share on revenue of $63.35 million.

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

One under-$10 specialty biopharmaceutical player that's starting to trend within range of triggering a big breakout trade is Biodel (BIOD), which is focused on the development and commercialization of innovative treatments for diabetes. This stock has been hit hard by the bears over the last three months, with shares down by 24%.

If you take a look at the chart for Biodel, you'll notice that this stock is ripping higher here right off its 50-day moving average of $2.32 a share with strong upside volume. Volume on Thursday has so far registered over 750,000 shares, which is well above its three-month average action of 445,084 shares. This move is quickly pushing shares of BIOD within range of triggering a big breakout trade.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in BIOD if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $2.52 to $2.60 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 445,084 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then BIOD will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels $3 to its 200-day moving average of $3.39 a share. Any high-volume move above $3.39 will then give BIOD a chance to tag $4 a share.

Traders can look to buy BIOD off weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support at $2.10 a share. One can also buy BIOD off strength once it starts to clear those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Obviously, there are companies outside of Phil Fisher area of focus manufacturing with technical elements that fit many of his principles.

Among really high profile companies, the three that stand out are:

    1. Amazon (AMZN)

Of those 3, Amazon stands out the most. Jeff Bezos often seems to be channeling Phil Fisher. And I imagine that if Fisher were ever interested in a retailer it would be a retailer with Amazon attitude about technology, customers, growth, and the long-term. More than anything though it Amazon constant internal push to develop new sales and especially new ways to serve existing customers without being prompted by outside forces that makes me think it a company Phil Fisher would be very interested in.

Fisher liked companies that had a philosophy of growth. Something internal to the organization that caused it to seek ways to grow sales, win new customers, develop new products. Brainstorm Cell Therapeutics Inc. (Brainstorm), incorporated on November 15, 2006, is a biotechnology company developing adult stem cell therapies for debilitating neurodegenerative disorders, such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and Parkinson disease (PD). These diseases have limited treatment options and as such represent unmet medical needs. The Company NurOwn technology is based on a differentiation protocol, which induces differentiation of the bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells into neuron-supporting cells, MSC-NTF cells, capable of releasing several neurotrophic factors, including Glial-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), which are critical for the growth, survival and differentiation of developing neurons.

The Company approach to treatment of neurodegenerative diseases with autologous adult stem cells includes a multi-step process beginning with harvesting of undifferentiated stem cells from the patient's own bone marrow, and concluding with transplantation of differentiated, neurotrophic factor-secreting mesenchymal stem cells (MSC-NTF) into the same patient-intrathecally and/or intramuscularly. Intrathecal (injection into the cerebrospinal fluid) transplantation consists of injection with a standard lumbar puncture; there is no need for a laminectomy -an invasive, orthopedic spine operation to remove a portion of the vertebral bone, as required by other technologies. Intramuscular (injection directly into muscle) transplantation is performed via a standard injection procedure as well. Its production process for induction of differentiation of human bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells into differentiated cells that produce NTF (MSC-NTF) for clinical use is conducted in full compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP).

For the past several years, Berkshire has contrasted its own cost-free float provided by profitable underwriting against the industrys (unimpressive) tendency to lose money on underwriting while generating net returns from investment income. So far, so good. Less edifying, though, is the repeated contrast of Berkshires track record of profitability to State Farms…even though, as a mutual company, State Farms profitability goals are inherently different from for-profit insurers like Berkshire. Its true that through year-end 2013, Berkshires underwriters have now operated at an underwriting profit for eleven consecutive years, but so have ACE (ACE), American Financial (AFG), AmTrust Financial (AFSI), Arch Capital (ACGL), Chubb (CB), HCC (HCC), Progressive (PGR), RLI (RLI), and W.R. Berkley (WRB), any or all of whom provide a more meaningful comparison than contrasting Berkshires results to a company thats not out to produce a profit in t he first place.

路 Nominal GDP Growth: Village Supermarket (VLGEA)

Over the last 10 years population growth, inflation, and real output per person growth has been so low it hard to tell the difference between companies growing at the rate of inflation, along with the population, or along with the economy.

You have to squint really hard to see any difference in the revenue growth records of DNB, Chuck E. Cheese, and Village.

This will not be true in all countries and at all times.

A literally no growth company like Earthlink is actually shrinking. It just happens to look like it staying perfectly flat because inflation is hiding the company real decay rate. In real terms, the company has been shrinking by about 3% a year for the last 10 years. So, Earthlink is not a no growth company. It shrinking.

That a bad sign. And, frankly, I don know how to value Earthlink. You would need to evaluate it as a turnaround or something not as a business that simplly stuck in place. I don know how to do that.

So, Earhtlink goes into the oo hardpile.

The same is pretty much true with Village Supermarket. Although this is complicated. You would need to check their sales numbers more carefully. Grocery stores often discuss inflation in their annual reports. Village Supermarket always does t

Lastly, it produces systems that use photonic technology to perform precision inspection for control and defect identification. The Company Interconnect & Microfabrication Group products address an expanding number of applications and materials on a broad set of substrates, including panels, continuous-feed reels, and discrete three dimensional components or devices.

Interconnect Via Drilling

For electrical interconnect applications, The Company laser via micro fabrication systems target applications that require the ! highest accuracy and smallest via (hole) dimensions to create electrical connections between layers in flexible circuits, high-density circuit boards and IC packages. The Company microvia drilling technology addresses the rapidly changing applications in IC packages, multichip modules and HDI circuit boards. Its ultraviolet (UV) laser processing systems employ technology in lasers, optics and motion control.

Advanced Microfabrication

The Company offers several platforms that enable customers to perform precision drilling, scribing, cutting, etching, routing or marking on many different types of materials and devices including glass, metal, plastic, paint and ceramics. It also offer laser ablation systems that ablate material for identification and analysis applications, including forensics, mineral analysis and research.

Semiconductor Group (SG)

The Company Semiconductor Group products address multiple applications that utilize laser energy to process materials on wafer-based substrates. This includes traditional silicon wafers, LEDs wafers, and new ultrathin silicon wafers used in the three-dimensional (3D) packaging applications. Semiconductor Memory Yield Improvement Systems includes semiconductor memory yield improvement products are designed to cost-effectively enable post-repair yield improvements in the manufacturing of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) memory devices.

3D Semiconductor Wafer Processing

The 3D chip packaging technologies is driving the need for silicon wafers to become thinner in order to allow for stacking of wafers within the same packaging geometry. As wafers become thinner, they become more challenging to cut into discrete chips using traditional mechanical saws. The Company model 9900 uses a laser to dice ultra-thin silicon wafers, those with a thickness of 50 microns or below, and to singulate interposers. In addition, this platform can be used to scribe next generation thin film ! materials! that lend themselves to laser processing.

LED Wafer Scribing

The Company AccuScribe line of sapphire wafer scribing systems is a key component in the manufacture of LEDs. During production, LEDs are created on a thin wafer of synthetic sapphire crystal that must be broken into individual units at the end of the process. The brittle nature of the sapphire wafer requires that it be carefully cut in order to prevent unwanted fractures, yield losses, and lower light output when the wafer is broken apart into discrete LEDs. The AccuScribe systems use a laser to scribe the wafer with a precise groove between individual LEDs. When mechanical force is applied to the wafer, it fractures along these grooves and allows the wafer to be split apart into discrete LEDs. These systems are capable of scribing both standard and high brightness designs for general illumination applications. In addition, this platform can be used to address singulation of various LED packaging materials.

LCD Repair

The Comapny's laser LCD repair systems are critical to improving yields in the manufacture of flat panel displays. During production, individual pixels of a display may develop electrical defects that result in no light emission or the emission of only a steady white light. To correct these defects, flat panel display producers employ a laser repair process to isolate the electrical defects during production by cutting the inputs to the pixel. Its laser systems are primarily sold to the manufacturers of LCD repair tools as a key component of their products.

Semiconductor Systems

The products include industry wafer marking equipment, wafer and circuit trim tools, and LCD repair tools. Wafer marking equipment is used for serialization and wafer identification by both manufacturers of semiconductor wafers and within semiconductor fabs. Wafer and circuit trim tools are laser systems that adjust the electrical performance of semiconductor devic! es or hyb! rid circuits by removing a precise amount of material from one or more circuit components.

Components Group (CG)

The Company designs and manufactures products that combine high-speed small parts handling technology with real-time control systems to provide automated, cost-effective inspection solutions for manufacturers of MLCC and other passive components such as capacitor arrays, inductors, resistors, varistors and hybrid circuits. These components, produced in quantities of trillions of units per year, process analog, digital and high-frequency signals and are used in all electronic products.

The Company provides several types of products and solutions in this market. Its MLCC test systems employ high-speed handling and positioning techniques to precisely load, test and sort MLCCs based on their electrical energy storage capacity, or capacitance, and their electrical energy leakage, or dissipation factor. Its 35XX series is the productive tester. Its 3510 model enables high speed testing of the industry smallest metric 0402 capacitors used primarily in advanced cell phone and tablet designs. It also produces consumable products, such as carrier plates and termination belts, both of which are used to hold MLCCs during the manufacturing and testing process.

The Company competes with Mechanics, Ltd., LPKF Laser & Electronics AG, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Orbotech Ltd., InnoLas Systems GmbH, DISCO Corporation, Laser Solutions, Inc., Quantel USA, Inc., Humo Laboratory, Ltd. and HOYA Corporation.
